Borough Champions: WGPS Triumphs in Redbridge School Games Bee Netball Tournament

In a thrilling showcase of skill and determination, WGPS's mixed Year 6 netball team emerged victorious at the Redbridge School Games Bee Netball tournament, held at the Redbridge Sports Centre on October 11. The team, comprised of two boys and five girls, faced stiff competition from 20 other teams.

Bee netball, played with mixed teams of five players, proved an exhilarating challenge. Placed in Group D alongside formidable opponents such as St Augustine’s B, Nightingale B, SS Peter & Paul B, and Barley Lane, WGPS's team navigated through the group stage to set up a knockout game against the Group C runners-up, St Augustine’s A. In a fierce battle, WGPS displayed remarkable composure, clinching a 4-1 victory.

Advancing to the semi-finals, they faced Churchfields A, overcoming a rocky start to emerge victorious.

The final showdown was a highly anticipated rematch against local rivals, St Aubyn’s, who had previously defeated WGPS in their U11 tournament. This time, WGPS was on a mission to secure their spot in the London Youth Games, and they did so convincingly, winning 7-3!

The teams hard work and dedication to early morning netball training has led to a truly commendable achievement. They now set their sights on the London Youth Games trophy, emerging as a team to watch.

Special thanks to Mrs. Fox, our dedicated netball coach, for her unwavering support, commitment and guidance.
