In the Spotlight - Modern Foreign Languages

Posted on: 13th Nov 2023

In an exciting and busy week for the Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department, pupils across various year groups have been enjoying a variety of fun and challenging activities.

Our Year 6 pupils delved into the world of the Spanish alphabet. The class enthusiastically embraced the challenge of learning to spell their names in Spanish, with some impressively mastering both their first and last names. The highlight of the session was a lively activity where each pupil spelt aloud the name of a famous person, prompting their peers to guess the identity.

To enhance the learning experience, we incorporated a catchy song, and for those keen to try it, here's the link: https://youtu.be/9LT9ltzFJTQ. Set the playback speed at 0.75 for an optimal learning pace. It was a fun and busy hour that added a vibrant touch to our language learning journey!

This term, Year 4 is having fun learning how to order food and drinks in a French café which is very handy for future holidays! In this week's class, they played noughts and crosses using food and drink items. It was exciting, with lots of drama and strategic moves! To score points for their team, the pupils had to read and say the words correctly. Now, they sound just like real French children!

The Year 1 and 2 Languages Club which runs every week after school, has been making a splash with its recent ocean theme! On sunny days, they enjoyed a lively game of 'fishermen and fishes' outdoors. Madame Schwartz, brought in a collection of cuddly sea creatures from home, sparking creative games and inspiring beautiful artwork from the children. The children labelled their artworks in both French and English, showcasing not just their artistic flair but also their language skills. Bravo, les enfants! It's been a fantastic journey into the depths of ocean-themed fun and learning at Languages Club!
