Once a Red, Always a Red

We are thrilled to introduce our newest alumni project, "Once a Red, Always a Red." This initiative aims to showcase the remarkable journeys of our students as they transition from WGPS, at the end of Year 6. A foundation at WGPS not only opens doors to prestigious Independent and Grammar secondary schools but also serves as the launch pad for futures that truly make a difference. Join us in celebrating the exceptional accomplishments of our alumni and the enduring legacy of the WGPS community.

During a recent visit to Westminster School, we had the pleasure of catching up with David, a former WGPS pupil. He generously shared his aspirations for the future and reflected on how WGPS played a pivotal role in preparing him for Westminster and beyond.

Introducing David:  David joined WGPS in Year 3 as part of our 7+ intake.

"I would like to attend the University of Cambridge and study computer science, as it's a subject I'm really interested in." - David

Continuing our journey through central London, our next stop for the "Once a Red, Always a Red" project was at City of London School for Girls (CLSG). We were delighted that CLSG rearranged the pupils' timetables, allowing us to interview Fanyi, Davinia, Arianne, and Ananya together. It was truly special to hear the group reminisce about their favourite memories and experiences at WGPS. They expressed deep appreciation for the breadth of the curriculum, fondly recalling their time playing in the orchestra and competing in sports fixtures.

The girls also shared their future aspirations and reflected on how WGPS instilled a passion for learning. In a touching moment, they recorded a video message for our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, offering reassurance about the 11+ exams and sharing how well-prepared they felt.

We are excited to continue the "Once a Red, Always a Red" project with our latest video, featuring a group of alumni at Haileybury. Situated on a beautiful 500-acre campus just 20 miles north of London, Haileybury provides an environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth. Isla, Honor, and Kimi spoke proudly about their school and took us on a tour, highlighting the innovative science building and the pioneering Stan-X project, which uses fruit flies to study human diseases like diabetes and pancreatic cancer. Haileybury is the first school in Europe to participate in this revolutionary research, enabling pupils to engage in university-level studies with scientists from Stanford and Oxford. The girls also shared their aspirations, with Kimi discussing her involvement in Haileybury’s Model United Nations (MUN) programme and Isla reflecting on her recent performance in Chicago at The Spotlight theatre. Their stories are a testament to the confidence and passion ignited at WGPS, as they continue to thrive at Haileybury. After the interview, Haileybury staff shared how much of the girls' success can be attributed to the strong foundation they received at WGPS, echoing the sentiment of a local Senior Headmaster who described our pupils as “confident but not arrogant.” We are proud to share this next chapter in the "Once a Red, Always a Red" project and celebrate the exceptional journeys of our alumni.
