Design Technology - Creating a Labyrinth Game

Posted on: 10th Jun 2024

During the last term, our Year 5 pupils worked on an exciting project to design their very own labyrinth-inspired games. This multidisciplinary project not only engaged their minds but also allowed them to develop practical skills in woodworking and design.

At the outset, pupils carefully planned their games to scale, ensuring the creation of complex paths with clear routes and strategic obstacles. This initial stage encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving as they envisioned the challenges players would face.

Next they tackled the woodworking aspect of the project, mastering the use of saws and measurement techniques. Piece by piece, they transformed raw materials into the structural elements of their labyrinth games, demonstrating remarkable skill and attention to detail.

Once the wooden components were assembled onto sturdy cardboard bases, it was time for testing and refinement. Through trial and error, pupils fine-tuned their designs, adjusting paths and obstacles to achieve the perfect balance of difficulty and enjoyment.

Finally, the pupils added strategically placed traps to challenge players and add an element of excitement to the games.
