Year 5 Visit Flatford Mill

Posted on: 7th Jun 2023

On Monday 22nd, May, we headed to Flatford Mill for our trip. It took a long time on the noisy coach before we reached our destination. One hour and thirty minutes to be exact! After we arrived, we had to haul our heavy suitcases to our accommodation. It was a grand sight!

The rooms in Flatford Mill were spacious, with an additional sink for brushing your teeth and for refilling your water bottle. The food was delicious and we got involved in the preparation by making our own sandwiches for lunch, which I clearly did well at ( I really didn’t). The most exciting part for me was enjoying a ‘late night snack’ with friends.

Flatford Mill is near Colchester, Suffolk which is surrounded by endless fields of green. During our orienteering activity we got to explore fields and get a close look at lambs and adult sheep. On our residential trip the girls stayed in Willy Lott’s cottage which is in a famous painting called the Hay Wain by John Constable.

There were various activities in Flatford Mill. My favourite experiences were the orienteering and shelter building. We spent a lot of time based outside in the sun which made it even more fun. Some of the activities included animals and running across the vast, green fields of Flatford Mill. Everything was fun and interesting, especially bug catching and the activities that included animals. The activities gave us the opportunity to enjoy nature.

After that we were so excited to see our parents so we went home on the coach.
