WGPS Win the Forest School Netball Tournament

Posted on: 30th Sep 2024

On Saturday, 21st of September, seven girls from Years 5 and 6 competed in a U11 netball tournament at Forest School. There were four other teams we had to play against: Forest, Berkhamsted, Avon House, and Daiglen.

There were two rounds, which meant we played the same teams twice overall. We drew the first match 2-2 against Forest and won all our other matches in the first round. During the second round, we went on to win three out of our four matches, except for Berkhamsted, where we lost by one point. It was very exciting as we came back from a 3-0 loss to finish 4-3.

Sadly, during our second-to-last match, one of our star players sprained her ankle, leaving us a player down. Luckily, a Forest player came on court to help us out, which showed great sportsmanship.

When it came time for the presentation, we were all very nervous because we wanted to come first. We had tried our very best during the whole morning from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. They announced 5th place, which was Daiglen, 4th place was Avon House, and 3rd place was Berkhamsted. Then it came down to the final two, Forest and WGPS. We were all excited because we had a chance of winning the tournament. We started a drumroll as they were about to announce the winners. We were so happy to have come this far. Then they called out the winners… WGPS! We all got up and cheered as we collected our medals and thanked everyone.

We were so pleased because we had worked so hard with no subs. It was a fun and exciting day, and we all had a blast. Thank you to Mrs. Prince for coaching us in the tournament. We were all so happy that we had come to the Open Day and won the tournament.
