Foundation One Parent Workshop

Posted on: 19th Jun 2023

A huge thank you to Foundation One parent, Dr Mannan, for giving up her time to talk to the Foundation One children about her role as a GP as part of our topic, 'people who help us in the community'.

Dr Mannan set up interactive work stations in the F1 classrooms, where small groups of children were given a scenario to think about and under Dr Mannan's instruction, were guided through how best to treat the patient! (a range of unsuspecting dolls and teddies!).

They were able to use real equipment such as stethoscopes, blank syringes, oxygen masks, bandages and in doing so the children learned to name a range of new objects and investigate their uses.

Dr Mannan gave an extremely informative and interactive talk to each group of children after they had experienced the carousel of activities, which resulted in lots of rich language and lots of questions throughout the week.

I think we may have lots of young doctors in the making thanks to Dr Mannan. Her kind and sensitive approach certainly helped to allay any fears the children may have had about visiting a doctor or going to hospital.
