Outdoor Classroom 2023

Posted on: 5th Jun 2023

On Thursday 19th May, the whole school took part in the Outdoor Classroom Day which is a global initiative promoting outdoor learning and play and helping children of all abilities to become more active and engaged in their learning using a multi-sensory, hands-on approach.

The children in all year groups were involved in planning their learning outdoors as well as designing class posters in anticipation of the special day. You could feel the excitement in the air on the glorious morning when the year groups headed towards their chosen local green spaces which became natural wonderlands of learning for the day.

A range of exciting lessons took place including Maths, English, Geography, Art, Music and French. A tiger came for tea and joined the Y1 children who happily shared the snack they had prepared at school with him. Year 2 children were involved in magical art learning - catching the summer sunshine to create sun prints of natural objects.

The older year groups were involved in practical maths activities which required exploration and investigation as well as writing alliterative descriptive poems using sounds and sights from nature.

The F1 children were excited to make beautiful suncatchers whilst F2 used their observations on minibeasts to create mini clay sculptures. The highlight of the day for the EYFS children was the outdoor Big Story. They were a great audience, chanting and  supporting the Gingerbread Man as he tried to escape from the animal characters played by their teachers.

A day to remember!
