School Council Houses of Parliament Workshop
Posted on: 10th May 2022On 4th May, our School Council representatives learned about democracy, the role of law and it's development in Britain. The day began with an online workshop with the Houses of Parliament, in which the children learned how modern Parliament came to be; how the House of Lords works and how people are elected to the House of Commons. After the workshop, School Council travelled to Westminster Abbey and took part in the 'Abbey and Parliament' tour. This included learning about the coronation of monarchs; the history and changing role of Westminster Abbey and how Parliament first used to meet there prior to moving to a small church within the Palace of Westminster. Being surrounded by memorials of influential and significant people from History was a true inspiration to our aspiring politicians, and helped to reinforce the importance of the role they play in our school society!
