Diverse & Inclusive Children’s Books
Posted on: 14th May 2024Woodford Green Prep is excited to introduce a range of book titles that reflect the diversity of our community and the world beyond. By promoting diverse and inclusive literature, we not only expand our understanding of the world but also create a welcoming space where all children feel represented and valued.
Together, let's celebrate the beauty of diversity and the joy of reading!
Pupils’ Comments about Importance of Diversity and Inclusive books
"Diverse and inclusive books help children (and adults!) learn things they hadn’t learnt before."
Obioma (Year 4)
"It’s great to read a variety of books in order to keep you open-minded and to help you learn from different perspectives. It’s great to read different authors as they have their own styles."
Yaqub (Year 4)
"It’s important to learn about other people’s lives and their cultures. Sometimes it can teach you lessons such as not judging someone by the way they look."
Mohitthra (Year 4)
"I thought The Boy at the Back of the Class was the most memorable story about a refugee that I have ever read!"
Rayyan (Year 4)
"It’s so important to consider different sides to every story: looking at all perspectives helps you piece the story together."
Ismaeel (Year 4)
"I think it’s special to hear stories from people who we might not have heard from before. We can really put our heart into their stories. I feel like they’re being listened to."
Teddy (Year 4)
These stories can educate us about climate change and deforestation, problems which are getting worse. We need to act now because without rainforests humans would be negatively affected.
Aaron (Year 4)
I think reading a variety of books with a variety of characters helps you to learn: reading about the same people from similar backgrounds and similar experiences all the time would be boring!
Kamah (Year 4)
